Work Efficiency On Construction Site Part 3

We Always Plan For Execution Of Work And Set Timelines For Them By Using Tools Like MS Project Or Primavera But Most Of Us Even Though Plan Our Own Day, Do Not Define Timeline For Each Planned Activity. Let Us Understand The Importance Of The Same.

Work Efficiency On Construction Site Part 3

As we discussed in the previous blog; we face a lot of personal challenges in our real estate world besides the obvious challenges.

In case you have missed my previous article please click here to read it first.

One of them is PLANNING OUR DAY. The obvious question that comes to mind is what is there for us to do daily planning? It’s the same work process day in and day out. If we are on-site its supervision of work, checking bills, talking to contractors, etc. In office its studying drawings, checking bills, make work orders, etc.

When I was working at Hiranandani Construction, we had started a movement, if I can call it so, in our Quality Control Department – whose head I was at that time - of writing daily time log in a notebook. Something which lawyers, solicitors & big accounting firms do regularly since they bill their client on an hourly basis. It’s something that is still not taken seriously in our construction world because we measure activity completion time by days and not hours (erroneously, unfortunately). So, the slip ups that happen, when they happen, are in terms of days and not hours.

Start maintaining daily, hour by hour diary and you will realize how much time you waste in doing things unimportant or insignificant resulting in a reduction of time for the work which is critical or important. In fact, you will at times scratch your head to decide what entry should you make in the time log, because you will realize that you have done nothing fruitful in that time span that you can put it down in the time log sheet. It’s an eye opener. We genuinely do not realize how much time we waste daily. A small template is shown here, click on the link below to get it for free.

Enter daily details honestly and in future blogs, we will understand how to read and interpret the data. How to make & maintain the daily planning diary? How and when to make daily planning?  That’s for another day.

And, one last thought before going “Don’t be distracted by what others do – unless you can use it to inspire you”.
